Chicago got socked with our first major winter storm late last week. It immediately followed several days in the 60s. Go figure. Anyway, Thursday night we got lots of freezing rain and several inches of snow.
Irie was very impressed by the snow on Friday. We stepped outside and she stopped, sat down and gave me a look as if to say, "What the heck is this all about???" I coaxed her out to the sidewalk and she immediately decided snow is fun. Biting it, rolling in it, jumping into the banks - all were given the big thumbs up by Irie.
However with the sunny cold weather this weekend we now have a great layer of ice covering pretty much everything. It's made our walks pretty treacherous. And even better - it's taught Irie a new trick. She's now learned the art of walking on only three legs. When her feet start to get cold she'll lift one leg and hop along for a minute until that paw warms up and then she'll put that one down and lift a different one, until she's worked her way around to all of her legs.
That's about the only entertainment our COLD weather is proving right now. I'm ready for the spring already. Meanwhile, I'm on the lookout for dog park alternatives for Irie. And because Chicago is just awesome, I'm actually finding some good ones. There's actually an indoor dog park in the city. Who knew??? I still have to figure out the hours and stuff, but apparently it's just a big storefront which the owners have made into basically an oversized living room, with plenty of space for the pooches to run around, meet other doggy friends and play. And meanwhile, I've discovered that in a pinch, the basement of my apartment building works fairly well as a dog park as well. Maybe not the most ideal and taking Irie down there pretty much guarantees the need for a bath wipe-down when we come back inside - but at least it's fairly warm and dry and allows us some room to play catch in!
